Well, it’s quite some time since I wrote my last post to all the followers from all corners of the Globe.
Today I’m sharing some of these late winter moments, that smell and scream Early Spring!
This is an open brood frame. I tend to choose bees as the one above, as they are not runny, and their calmness keep both beekeeper with less bees bothering and keeps the brood warm. This gene is related with non agressive bees. On this apiary, 23 out of 27 keep this standard behaviour.
Overwintered 5frame hive of hybrid bees…was moved into a 10 frame deep.
Today as every Tuesday from early March to early Jully it was time to prepare a Starter/Finisher hive to make some Qeens…after lunch 92 larvae were transfered. Bees told me a secret…so I expect 80 to 85 sealed cells by Sunday.
It’s also time to trap varroa on Drone Brood. Varroas are scarce this year, but I won´t let them build up…and this is the only tratment you will make that allow you to have a profit!!
In the end, happy chicken, wax recovered, less varroa’s and we have the benefit to choose not to cut on hives that are well above average and having more of those drones flying to find our Queens.
Regards to all!!
